Harvard University's Campus Services (CS) Unit (annual operating budget of $450M; real estate portfolio valued at over $3.1B; 1,600+ employees) reports to the Vice President for Campus Services and provides outstanding delivery of a wide variety of services to the Harvard Community. Campus Services is comprised of numerous departments serving a broad constituency of internal and external customers with diverse lines of business and size (measured in annual budget $), including
Energy, Facilities and Sustainable Building Services
University and Commercial Real Estate in Cambridge and Boston (including 2 Harvard-owned Hotels)
Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager for Campus Services' Finance & Accounting team, he or she is providing accounting and internal control support for the Accounts Receivable unit of Campus Services as well as Harvard University Housing (HUH) and Harvard Real Estate (HRE). He or she will:
Be an active member of the CS accounting team who ensures that all aspects of the billing cycle (e.g.:recording revenue, billing, and processing receipts) are performed timely and accurately, closely collaborating with Campus Service's Business Units to achieve this goal
Ensure that timely, accurate, and professional customer service is provided to CS customers and the University community
Adhere to a calendar of accounting activities to ensure that all transactions are processed and by appropriate deadlines
Perform month-end closing operations in CS financial sub ledger systems including, but not limited to: Yardi and Ungerboeck
Participate in monthly and annually general ledger closings.
Perform regular and timely completion of balance sheet account reconciliations
Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts, and resolve accounting issues
Ensure that source systems and the University general ledger are reconciled
Prepare journal entries to record or adjust accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP and Harvard University policy.
Produce or assist in producing BU financial reports for a wide variety of customers, including those internal as well as those external to Harvard University.
Work with the accounting team to generate detailed revenue report and aging report for HRE and HUH management groups
Run ad-hoc reports per senior management's requests for budgeting, planning and decision-making
Gain understanding of key internal controls, policies and procedures related to transactions to monitor and enforce compliance.
Participate in working groups charged with improving business processes and customer deliverables
Have solid knowledge of Microsoft Office tools necessary to support accounting operations.
Develop knowledge and skills in the use of CS or University systems that support transactions and/or reports necessary to CS accounting operations
Participate in User Acceptance Testing and system implementation for the systems used to support CS core operations.
Work with others in the CS Financial Services team on special projects.
Serve as back up for critical activities, as needed.
This is a one year term position.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum of three years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Detail Oriented and well-organized
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability/aptitude to analyze and reconcile data
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products including: Excel, Outlook, and Word
Ability to learn and utilize Campus Services' systems (e.g.: Yardi and Ungerboeck).
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
