The Director, Real Estate Finance will play a critical role in the strategic expansion, optimization and maintenance of TAS’s project debt, term debt and corporate debt portfolio. SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Post-secondary degree in Finance or Commerce/ Business Administration; professional designations (i.e., CFA, CPA) and/or post-graduate degrees are considered assets
5 - 7 years of real estate lending experience in corporate banking, commercial banking, or a similar environment
In-depth knowledge of real estate underwriting, loan structuring, loan negotiation and loan documentation is required, CMHC financing experiencing is an asset
Able to arrange, manage and monitor a portfolio of construction loans, revolving loans, term loans and commercial mortgages
Able to create presentations for executive team members and other internal/external groups as required
Demonstrated expertise in financial modelling, robust analytical and quantitative skills with rigorous attention to detail
Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
Proven project management skills, with ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities under tight timelines
Sound planning, prioritization, organization, and execution skills
Entrepreneurial with a high level of integrity and ownership, operates with urgency when required
Strong interpersonal skills, able to build and maintain relationships and influence at all levels
A team player who can also work independently
Curious and collaborative, with a strong drive for innovation and creative problem solving
Passionate about real estate, with a demonstrated interest in city-building and social impact
Lead the arrangement, negotiation, closing and monitoring of all construction loans, revolving loans, term loans and commercial mortgages in the TAS debt portfolio.
Establish and maintain a framework for internal reporting, monitoring and maintenance of the TAS debt portfolio.
Build direct and strategic relationships with lending partners, JV partners and service partners (i.e., legal counsel, debt brokers, etc.)
Attend and participate in relevant industry events (related to real estate, lending, legal, etc.) to increase TAS’s industry profile and build a network of strategic partners
Collaborate and work closely with: (i) the Investments Team in respect of new debt origination requirements for acquisitions and project financing; (ii) the Finance Team in respect of loan funding, quarterly monitoring and loan amendments; and (iii) the Impact & Engagement Team as it relates to sustainability linked debt
Recommend and implement processes, systems, and tools to improve team effectiveness
Collaborate with colleagues across the team, help strengthen cross-functional effectiveness
Deepen personal understanding of TAS strategy on an ongoing basis
