About Brevard County Property Appraiser
The Property Appraiser's primary statutory responsibilities include property valuation and the administration of various exemptions, agricultural classifications, assessment caps, and the preparation of the annual assessment roll (also referred to as the tax roll), as set forth by Florida law and the Florida Department of Revenue. Florida's county Property Appraisers are overseen by the Florida Department of Revenue and are not beholden to any taxing authority. County and municipal taxing authorities have no power over property valuation, and Property Appraisers have no power over tax rates. This is a necessary separation of powers established by our Florida Constitution to ensure fair and equitable assessments by the Property Appraiser, and subsequent taxation by taxing authorities for the funding of county and municipal services such as schools, police, fire & rescue, roads, parks, etc. To receive Veteran's Preference, Veterans' Preference documentation (Form DD-214) must be provided upon initial interview and must include a copy of an official document showing dates of service and type of discharge. Positions may be filled in as few as two weeks, but some may take longe...r. After the job closes, the hiring authority reviews all applications, selects the best qualified candidate(s) and schedules interviews. Upon completion of the pre-employment process, and if the position is still approved to be filled, the best qualified candidate will be contacted by the Property Appraiser's designee. FLORIDA DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE Applicant must successfully pass a drug test before being accepted for employment. Refusal to submit to a drug test, or a positive confirmed test result, will disqualify Applicant for employment with BCPA for a period of one year. During employment Applicant will be subject to BCPA’s drug testing policy.
